What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a modern orthodontic treatment that uses a series of custom-made, clear aligners to gradually shift your teeth into the desired position. These aligners are made of a smooth, comfortable, BPA-free plastic that won't irritate your cheeks and gums like traditional metal braces often do. Perfect for adults and teens, Invisalign aligners are not only invisible but also removable, giving you the flexibility to eat, drink, brush, and floss as you normally would.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign treatment involves wearing a series of custom-crafted aligners that make slight adjustments to the positioning of your teeth. Each set of aligners is worn for about two weeks before moving on to the next set in the series, gradually moving your teeth towards their ideal position, as prescribed by Dr. Cherian.

The Many Benefits of Invisalign

  • Nearly Invisible: Most people won’t even notice you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment.
  • Removable: Easily take out your aligners to enjoy all your favorite foods and maintain your dental hygiene routine.
  • Comfort: With smooth edges, Invisalign aligners are comfortable to wear and do not irritate your gums or cheeks.
  • Predictable Results: Invisalign treatment allows you to visualize every stage of the process, giving you a clear picture of the treatment timeline and expected outcome.
  • Fewer Office Visits: Invisalign often requires fewer check-ups than traditional braces, as you receive several aligner sets to use before the next appointment.

Signs It’s Time to Consider Invisalign

Invisalign is suitable for correcting a variety of orthodontic issues. You might consider Invisalign if you experience:

  • Crowded Teeth: Teeth that overlap can be difficult to clean properly, leading to plaque buildup and potential gum disease.
  • Overbite or Underbite: Misalignment of the jaw can lead to difficulty chewing and speaking, and can cause undue stress on your jaw joints.
  • Gaps Between Teeth: Spaces between teeth that can affect the aesthetics of your smile and the functionality of your bite.
  • General Misalignment: If you’re unhappy with the alignment of your teeth and desire a straighter smile.

The Invisalign Treatment Process

Consultation and Custom Treatment Plan

Your journey to a straighter smile begins with a consultation at Grace Dental Care. Dr. Cherian will conduct a thorough examination of your teeth and discuss your orthodontic goals. Using state-of-the-art digital scanning technology, we will create precise 3D images of your teeth, avoiding the discomfort of traditional dental impressions.

Receiving Your Custom Aligners

Based on your scans, custom aligners will be crafted to fit snugly over your teeth. When your aligners are ready, you’ll return to our office to ensure a perfect fit and receive detailed instructions on how to wear and care for them.

Progressing Through Your Aligners

You will wear each set of aligners for about two weeks before switching to the next set in the series. It’s important to wear them for 20 to 22 hours a day for the best results, only removing them to eat, drink, brush, and floss.

Completion and Retention

After you've progressed through your series of aligners, Dr. Cherian will evaluate your alignment to ensure the treatment goals have been achieved. To maintain your new smile, you might need to wear a retainer, which helps ensure your teeth stay in place.
